Mise-En-Scene (OTS)

It is very important to use representation effectively so that the audience can understand our meaning: we are going to use symbolic visual codes, iconic imagery and combine this with familiar objects used in a threatening way.

The props used in our OTS Task

For the symbolic visual code to represent the realism of violence, we decided to use a gun which is a very common prop used in film noir films as this gives the effect of tension, power and authority.

Originally we decided to use cable ties as it made it seem a lot more realistic when representing the hostage situation but it was not accessible at the time. As an alternative, we used a piece of string as this gave it an appropriate effect for the hostages' state.

We used a sandwich bag as one of the props for our OTS task in order to imitate a DNA bag in which detectives use - this will give it more of a suspense to the audience and is used for an enigma etc. what happened? Why was it left at the crime scene? ...

In order to have a sensible and practical scene, black gloves would be worn by the criminal so that it resembles a generic criminal.
